Why Sustain?
How Is Sustain Sustainable?
Sustain is starting with a basic list of sustainability features that anyone can apply to their business. Individually, these may not sound significant, but stacked together, these areas significantly reduce the negative environmental impact of the work being done. In the future, Sustain will add more features, further raise the platform's standards, increase accountability, and provide resources to help businesses continue reducing their environmental footprint! We’re not perfect, but we are always learning and focused on making a real impact through the platform and the relationships we build.
Businesses listed on Sustain check 7 or more of these 11 areas:
✅ Uses locally sourced materials whenever possible
✅ No harmful chemicals or pesticides unless there is no viable alternative.
✅ All business vehicles meet emissions standards
✅ Offers goods and/or services which help conserve resources, such as solar panels, heat pumps, or xeriscaping
✅ Minimizes waste and offers recycling, composting, reuse, and/or donation when possible
✅ Prioritizes repair and/or significant efficiency upgrades
✅ Uses low or no-VOC products (e.g., paints, cleaners, sealants, adhesives)
✅ Uses durable and long-lasting materials

Businesses on Sustain also must have liability and workers' comp insurance (if applicable), be registered with the State of Colorado, and hold appropriate certifications or trade licenses.
Our Story
Growing up, the goal was always to contribute positively to the planet and reduce waste wherever possible. With that goal still in mind, Sustain was created. The entire service industry has room for easy changes to support the environment, and Sustain aims to make it easy to enact those changes for both customers and businesses.
We found that there were already service providers doing this where we grew up in Boulder County. It is our goal to bring these providers together in one place, creating an accessible directory for sustainably-minded customers and professionals to interact, while having easy access to programs that benefit both parties, and our planet.
Sustainability isn’t only about solar panels and recycling bins. It’s about balancing the web of life we depend on. As the environmental crisis continues, every person, animal, plant, and insect's well being is tied to the health of the planet. Starting with our daily habits and consumer choices, we can be participants in changing the world for the better, not watching from the sidelines.
